Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), Gokwe South District has banned the Citizen Coalition for Change (CCC)
rally in an effort described as maintaining public order.

The rally was scheduled to be held at Nyaradza Sports Grounds on July 13 in Gokwe District in Midlands
Province. This was interpreted with the main opposition as a sabotage by the police.

Recently, ZRP leaked a memorandum which it cleared out that opposition parties were at liberty to convene public rallies ahead of August 23 national election as long as they adhere to the plain dictates of the rule of law and order by following all due procedures.

Officer Commanding Zimbabwe Republic Police Gokwe District, Augustine Zimbili said the ban of the main opposition party rally is attributed to the fact that their base station is incapacitated to provide resources to maintain law and order as other political parties had already booked for their activities.

“This office acknowledges receipt of your notice which you intend to hold a public meeting at the above mentioned venue and date.

Kindly be informed that on the said date there will be political activities by other political parties, including yours at CMB Open Space opposite Madzore Bottle Store Gokwe South which have strained our human resource base in the event of any public disorder as discussed before,” he said.

As the country is in hyper election mode the Government and the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) are working to ensure a 2023 free, fair, credible and peaceful elections.
