Creator of popular British motoring show, The Grand Show, Jeremy Clarkson has revealed that his team enjoyed driving in Zimbabwe except for one pitfall, literally.

On Tuesday, co-creator of the show for Amazon Prime alongside Richard Hammond, James May and Andy Wilman paid tribute to Zimbabwe for a “very special” tour, which took them to the scenic eastern parts of the country.

“My profound thanks to the people and government of Zimbabwe for helping to make a very special Grand Tour special, very special,” Clarkson wrote on X.

“We absolutely adored everything about your country. Apart from the pot holes maybe,” he said with a small dig.

However, Zimbabweans respomded with some grace and appreciation.

“The potholes are part of our culture!” journalist and blogger Adam Theo said. “We look forward to watching your Zimbabwean special.”

Member of Parliament Joana Mamombe responded: “Thank you for visiting our beautiful country, we hope you will return again for more projects.”

Another user said: “I’m delighted to hear that you had such a wonderful experience in Zimbabwe! Your kind words and appreciation for the country are truly heartwarming.

“It’s always great to focus on the positive aspects of your trip, and I hope the memories you’ve created there will stay with you for a long time. Thank you for sharing your positive post!!”

The Grand Tour motoring show was started in 2016 and features the trio of Clarkson, May and Hammond driving in terrains across the world in new or old automobiles from manufacturers.

It is available for streaming services on Amazon Prime, and the Zimbabwe episode is likely to be featured in 2024.

Meanwhile, the Independent reported that the trio were “marooned” at a luxury camp in Botswana, Clarkson has revealed.

The three former Top Gear hosts were filming in Africa for the forthcoming Grand Tour specials, which will air on Amazon Prime Video, when their flights home were apparently cancelled.
