The Harare Wrestling Association elects new board

The Harare Wrestling Association (HWA) held its first elective annual general meeting after the establishment of an interim board in 2021.

The interim board was mandated to properly structure the HWA.
Tafadzwa Chibade, as seasoned school sports director, led the interim board.

And on Friday, May 19, the elective AGM was held at the National Spots Stadium  which saw Aleck Magoto being elected as the new chairperson, Christina Mutata Moyo as vice chairperson, Herbert Mavhudzi as secretary general, Edward Dembedza as the director of development and technical, and Mangwiro becoming the board member for marketing and sponsorship.

The new executive is tasked with properly registering and constituting Harare Metropolitan Wrestling Clubs and Harare Metropolitan District Associations.

HWA falls under the Zimbabwe Wrestling Federation, which is an affiliate member of the International World Wrestling Federation.

Wrestling is a sport that is made up of mainly three forms: professional wrestling (the one you watch on TV), Olympic wrestling, and beach wrestling.

Zimbabwe has seen stagnant growth in wrestling as the national association has been run by a one-man band in the form of Tapiwa Masinire, who has conducted most of the association’s activities as the president of the ZWF without any formal structures beneath him.
