Siyachitema netball tourney preps at an advanced stage

All is set for the inaugural Perpetua Siyachitema netball tournament to be held on Saturday at White City Stadium, Bulawayo.

The tournament is being organised by Netzim, a local digital media organisation which focuses on netball only.

The tournament is expected to host 10 teams from the developmental sides as well as men’s teams.

Siyachitema became the first captain to lead the Zimbabwe National Netball team (Gems) to their maiden World Cup campaign in 2019.

The team went on to finish remarkable eighth.

Currently, she is the Glow Petroleum Queens coach where she has managed to win the Rainbow netball league title for two consecutive seasons.

She is also eyeing for her third title in a row as she sits on top if the RANL 2023 season log with an impressive unbeaten run.
She has also won the coach of the season three times.

In an interview with Review and Mail Sport, Netzim spokesperson Tashan Mtengwa said the tournament has been organised to not only celebrating Siyachitema’s individual accomplishments but also acknowledging the broader significance of her trailblazing journey.

“This tournament serves as a platform not only to showcase exceptional talent but also as an opportunity to honor the remarkable legacy of Perpetua Siyachitema.

“By acknowledging her unparalleled contributions to the sport and celebrating her impact on female athletes, we not only pay homage to a true netball pioneer but also inspire future generations to continue pushing boundaries and striving for greatness.

“This tournament is not just a celebration of Siyachitema as an exceptional athlete but also a testament to her enduring legacy as a trailblazer in netball,” he said.
