SA’s “Facebook rapist” Thabo Bester’s Zimbabwe hideout plan

By Entertainment Reporter

South African media have reported that serial rapist and murderer, Thabo Bester, who escaped prison may have laid low in Zimbabwe after skipping the border.

Various accounts by the media suggest that Bester – known as the “Facebook rapist” – escaped prison with the aid of his girlfriend, Dr Nandipha Magudumana, through an intricate plan that point to bribing prison authorities and headed north armed with an equally sophisticated plan.

But it did not go down exactly well.

The Sunday Independent says Bester skipped the border to Zimbabwe to lay low after escaping from the Mangaung maximum security prison where he allegedly paid R5 million to at least nine prison warders who helped him escape.

Bester and his Zimbabwean smugglers were also involved in a gunfight with soldiers guarding the Beitbridge border where they were forced to ditch their car and run on foot. One of the smugglers was injured during the shooting.

Meanwhile, The Citizen reports that Dr Nandipha reportedly purchased a luxury vehicle last year, later drove it across the Zimbabwean border, and strangely, simply abandoned it there.

Observers, have speculated that the intriguing trip may have been part of a possible border escape plan for Bester.

Dr Nandipha had purchased a whopping R1.35 million luxury Mercedes-Benz in 2022.

The purchase of the vehicle, the bizarre border run, and the outstanding debt, along with other details, have been confirmed by the dealership where the vehicle was purchased.

The business, which had enlisted the services of private investigators in the wake of the purchase debacle, has commited to provide more details on record at a later stage.

Shortly after the purchase, Dr Nandiphaallegedly drove the vehicle across the Beitbridge border post between South Africa and Zimbabwe, and abandoned it there before returning to South Africa on foot.

This came to light after Magudumana had, for several months, failed to meet the payments for the luxury black Mercedes-Benz AMG.

According to the dealership where it was purchased, she has an outstanding debt of R700 000.

The whereabouts of the couple – now South Africa’s most wanted criminals amid revelations of two of their domestic workers believed to be murdered by them and buried – remain unknown.

According to City Press, a border alert has been issued to officials on all of South Africa’s border points to be on the look-out for Bester and his girlfriend.

Could Magudumana’s baffling trip to the border and subsequent disappearance indicate that the couple have already fled into Zimbabwe?

Specialist investigator Mike Bolhuis reckons that this could very well be the case.

“They might be in one of the neighbouring countries already.” Bolhuis told eNCA in an interview this week.
