FC Platinum coach Norman Mapeza says he will not resign from his job and believes the poor run of form being experienced by the club is a storm that will soon pass.

Mapeza’s charges have not been playing well in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) this season and are lying 6th on the log standings with 26 points after 18 matches.

They have won seven matches, lost six and drawn five and are 12 points behind log leaders Highlanders. FC Platinum have struggled for consistency so far in the league title chase and this has disappointed their small – but vociferous – band of supporters.

They face Yadah in the Chibuku Cup on August 12 hoping and will be under pressure to progress to the next round of the cup competition with a victory.

The league fixtures take a break this weekend to pave way for the exciting 2023 edition of the Chibuku Cup.

Mapeza – who has taken the blame for his team’s mediocre performance in the league – said he will not throw in the towel as he still believes he can steer the club back to winning ways.

“We have had very good preparations for the match against Yadah and I am happy with how we are going to approach this match,” Mapeza said.

“We have not been getting the results that we have been aiming for but I believe it is a phase that we will pass very soon. I have been watching Yadah’s matches and I think we will be well equipped in terms of the strategy that we are going to use against them,” Mapeza added.

Speaking on the speculation regarding his future at the club, Mapeza said he is not one to back away from a challenging situation.

“Yes, we have not been getting the ideal results but I will not quit. I am here and I will remain here. Just so that there is no further speculation, let me say it here and now that I will not quit.

“I have a mission to complete and I will make sure that the fans are happy again by taking the team back to where they are supposed to.

“I will keep working hard until we start winning regularly again. I still have a lot to offer to the club and it is for our passionate fans that I will keep on fighting for the club. I cannot let them down,” Mapeza said.
