Gun violence has once again reared its ugly head after two prominent people lost their lives in what are suspected to be car jackings that turned violent.

The first casualty was Hip hop artiste Sandile Mkhize a.k.a DJ Citilyts who was also the young brother to late legendary hip hop artiste Pro.

An unnamed source told South African media that four armed men approached Citi and his friends and pointed their firearms at them. The source says that one of the four armed men then tried to reason with his friends who went on to shoot at Citi a number of times, wounding him fatally.

The source also added that the men arrived in a VW Polo – the same car they used to flee the scene after they killed the young musician.

Mkhize captured the hearts of Mzansi with his hits, including WashaVura and Malambane.

He worked with several major artists, including Sjava, Emtee and Fifi Cooper, while at Ambitiouz Entertainment. He left the label several years ago.

Vura was nominated for Song of the Year at the 2016 SA Hip Hop Awards and Best Hit Single at the 16th Annual Metro FM awards in 2017.

Mkhize lost his brother, veteran rapper Linda “ProKid”, in 2018. He dedicated a song to ProKid and shared his heartbreak at the star’s funeral

Meanwhile on Saturday, the body of former Zimbabwe warriors left back Charles Yohane was also found with a bullet wound to the head in Soweto.
