Gems set to regroup, as netball world cup finals draws closer

The Zimbabwe senior national netball team (Gems) are set to regroup for the second camp this weekend ahead of the Netball World Cup set for July 28-August 6.

The Gems had taken a break after a month-long training camp at Prince Edward School in Harare.

Gems coach Ropafadzo Mutsauki said they have called a bigger group and are expecting a lot of competition in camp.

“We are expecting to get have 27 players in camp, we will then trim after two weeks, we will then work with the remaining players.

“The foreign based players are set to join us at a later stage since they are still tied up with their clubs,” he said.

Zimbabwe are one of the four African countries that will compete at the 16-team Netball World Cup competition due to take place from July 28 to August 6 in Cape Town, South Africa.

They are up against 11-time champions Australia, Tonga and Fiji in Pool A, in the preliminary stages.

The Gems’ last competition was last year in November when they took part in the Spar Diamond Challenge in South Africa.

The technical team has underscored the importance of friendly matches to have a better assessment of the players and this will enable them to come up with a formidable side.
