Gems head coach Ropafadzo Mutsauki has expressed great satisfaction with the overall readiness of her charges for the upcoming 2023 Netball World Cup qualifiers slated for Pretoria, South Africa from 21 to 27 August.
Zimbabwe is drawn in Pool A alongside South Africa, Tanzania, Namibia and Botswana.
The qualifiers will see Zimbabwe senior national netball team opening their campaign with a clash against Tanzania on 22 August, followed by what is expected to be a thrilling encounter against Namibia on 23 August.
Their third match will be against South Africa the following day, before facing Botswana on 25 August in their last group match.
The team is scheduled to leave for South Africa tomorrow (Wednesday), and veteran coach Mutsauki is adamant that they are well- prepared to put up a great show in Pretoria, and that they have what it takes to advance to the next phase of the competition.
“We are ready, and have been preparing well for the upcoming qualifiers. I think we have a good chance, and we will not underrate any team. We will plan for every team in our group, and we hope to come out tops,” said Mutsauki.
Gems captain Felistus Kwangwa said the team will definitely qualify for the world cup.
“Right now, I think we are more than ready. We are just waiting for the tournament to kickstart,” she said.
“I think our combinations are coming out well. And I think whatever the coaches have been looking for is there.”
“I think whenever you are going for a tournament, everything is not going to come easily. Or whatever the results you want doesn’t come on a silver platter. So we really have to work hard.
“Although looking at the teams that are in our group. The only team ranked better than us is South Africa.
“But that doesn’t mean when a team is higher ranked than you it doesn’t mean you can’t beat them.
“Our aim as a team is to make sure that we finish first.”
