Duo in court for abducting truck driver

Two individuals have been taken to the Harare Magistrates Court following accusations of assaulting and abducting a truck driver, who was later turned over to the Zambian law enforcement for detention.

Brian Chande, 50, from Chitungwiza and Moussa Mounchikpou, 57, appeared before Harare magistrate Stanford Mambanje facing kidnapping charges.

The were granted US$200 bail and the matter was remanded to 14 March.

The State represented by Anesu Chirenje alleges that on 28 October 23 at number 21 Douglas Road, Workington, Harare, the two accused persons while in the company of three other accomplices who are still at large summoned the complainant to one of the offices at number 21 Douglas Road, Workington, Harare.

The first accused introduced the complainant to their three accomplices who are still at large who claimed to be police officers and left the complainant in the company of his accomplices who advised the complainant that he was under arrest for failing to deliver 600 bags of fertiliser at Omnia Fertiliser Company in Zambia.

They further assaulted the complainant with a baton stick whilst he was handcuffed ordering him to tell them where he had offloaded the truck load of fertiliser.

At around 1700 hours, the accused persons forcibly took the complainant into their motor vehicle against his will. They drove to Chirundu Boarder post where they handed him over to Lloyd Chisumba a Zambian national who was in the company of Zambian Police Officers.

The State further alleges that Lloyd Chisumba who was using an Isuzu twin cab took the complainant to Mosque Police Post in Makeni, Zambia where he was detained.

The complainant then made a report through Interpol on 18 December 2023.
