Chiragwi looking to guard against complacency

Ngezi Platinum Stars coach Takesure Chiragwi says he will be ensuring that his team does not get ahead of themselves and try to remain consistent, as they face Chicken Inn in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match on Saturday.

The match will be played at Luveve stadium. Kick off 3pm.

Ngezi are currently at the top of the log table with 17 points from four wins and five draws.

They remain unbeaten, same as second placed Highlanders who are trailing in the log standings with a point. They have 16 points.

Ngezi’s opponents, Chicken Inn, are in position eight with 12 wins from two wins and six draws.

“It’s a tricky encounter, basically we can just say it’s (Chicken Inn) a good team, they have been together for a long time and have been playing good football. Despite the current results that they are facing, it doesn’t mean they are not a good team,” Chiragwi said.

“It’s going to be very tough and we just need to be focused. We are also coming from a very good win. We need to work on the players to psych them up after a very good performance. Telling them that It’s a different team that we are playing away from home so we need to focus and continue working hard so that we can get a better result.”

And as they travel to Bulawayo for the encounter, Chiragwi is however, happy with his team’s away form.

“Playing away from home is always difficult, there’s a lot of changes. You are playing away from the supporters but what is important is a good team shows character when playing away. Of late I think we are doing well playing away because we haven’t lost a game away which is good for us, so we need to keep the momentum and the consistency of getting a result which is good for the team.”

Ngezi has a decent opening campaign into the 2023 and Chiragwi is hoping that his charges will continue to show good form and put up consistent numbers to reach the ultimate goal.

“We just have to keep on pushing the players like I have said, it’s just up there in the mind. After doing very well. At home probably it will carry on their mind and that can also affect their performance but I believe in them that they can collect maximum points.

“They know how it is in terms of consistency and their performance individually so I hope we will have a good day and focus on their psychological part.”

Ngezi Platinum player, Polite Moyo, said they will take every game as a normal game and will not underrated or overrated any team.

“The approach is just the same as the other games,” he said.

Asked on how they are feeling ahead of the Chicken Inn encounter after the FCP win, Moyo said:

“The win we got from the FC Platinum game is giving us somewhere to build up from going into the next game. So we are taking the positives from the FC Platinum game to the Chicken Inn game.”

Chicken inn is a team that each time you play against them they give challenges and consider they are at home.

“So far the morale has been high in camp, the boys are working hard and being at the top gives us so much confidence.”
