Zimbabwe will send 255 runners to the 96th edition of Comrades Marathon, to be held in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa.
Zimbabwe is one of the 84 countries participating, with also one of the highest participants.
A total of 2354 international runners from 84 countries are entered into this year’s Comrades Marathon with the lion’s share of athletes coming also from India with 403 athletes, United Kingdom with 224, USA with 173 and Brazil with 142 runners.
Comrades Marathon Association (CMA) Race Director, Rowyn James said, “We are pleased with the large number of international entrants in this year’s Comrades Marathon. There is no doubt that this is a truly international event. As usual, we offer a very warm South African welcome to athletes and their families from around the world who will be here to share in the spirit and camaraderie of The Ultimate Human Race on Sunday, 11 June 2023.”
The 96th Comrades Marathon will be a Down Run on Sunday, 11 June 2023, starting at the Pietermaritzburg City Hall at 05h30 and ending 12 hours later at the Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Stadium in Durban.
The route distance of the 48th Comrades Down Run is 87.701km.
Zimbabwe has not had much joy in the race since Stephen Muzhingi became the first man in 23 years to win the Comrades Marathon three successive times a decade ago.
